Presidio YMCA Bike Skills Area

Pop Hicks Field (at the end of Barnard Ave, Presidio)

Opened in June 2008 at Pop Hicks Field, the Presidio YMCA is proud to offer the youth and families of the Presidio and San Francisco a safe, fun area to learn and practice bike safety and skills.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  The Bike Program is geared to teach even beginners how to safely ride bikes in the city.  The curriculum is focused around bike safety, bicycle knowledge, maintenance and repair, and healthy living and nutrition.  Every participant is encouraged to get involved in the "Earn a Bike" component of the program, where students have to show commitment, dedication, and specific skills in order to take home the bike that they have used as a participant in the program.  All of our bikes have been donated by YMCA members, Trips for Kids, staff and the SF Police Department.  In order to keep this program going, we rely heavily on donations of bicycles and safety equipment.

Current Locations :  Francisco, Roosevelt, Marina, Claire Lilienthal and Presidio Middle schools

Cost : FREE

Summer Camp

The Presidio Community YMCA looks forward to seeing all of our returning families and meeting new ones this summer. We work hard to produce quality camps that focus on our four core values: honesty, respect, caring and responsibility. Every week, with the exception of August 17-21, all campers entering grades K-8 will have three different camps to choose from: a day camp, a specialty camp, and a sports camp.

To the extent possible, financial assistance is available for summer camp thanks to the generous donors who contribute to our Strong Communities Campaign. The deadline to apply is May 1st. You will be notified by May 15th as to whether or not you are eligible. Pick up a form from Main Post Gym and turn it in when you register. Contact Elizabeth Visser, Administrative Services Director with questions at 415.447.9675 or evisser@ymcasf.org.
