The Presidio Community YMCA serves people who can’t afford the price of a facility membership, a class or a program, as well as those who can, by seeking donations to make participation possible for all. You can make a significant and positive impact in the life of a deserving child, youth or adult by make a charitable contribution to the Presidio Community YMCA today.
|
Additionally, the YMCA addresses specific community issues through a variety of
programs provided at no cost or with substantial subsidies. These programs are

| Issue |
One in three children living in San Francisco is obese. |
| |
|
| Solution |
The Presidio Community YMCA designed the Y-Bike Program to help address this worrying trend. This program teaches youth to ride a bicycle safely, gets them physically active and outdoors, and improves their health and the community by providing education on bicycle riding, maintenance and safety through school-based programs and community outreach. Not only has this program taught hundreds of youth to ride a bicycle for the first time, it has been proven to increase the self-esteem of youth participants. During the 2008-2009 school year, we will expand this program to serve a total of nine public schools. |

| Issue |
The number of children who spent time on outdoor activities decreased by 50% from 1997 to 2003. |
| |
|
| Solution |
Through structured activities in the afterschool hours and weekends, our Earth Service Corps program develops young people to be leaders in their communtiy through activities focused on group dynamics, adventuer field trips, and community service projects. The majority of youth participants said that they would spend more time outdoors and that they would do community service again after their experience in Earth Service Corps. In the coming year, we will continue to develop youth leaders by offering this program at four public schools. |
